Jeff Koons' Balloon sculptures at Art Loft!

While a major retrospective of the artist is scheduled at MUCEM as soon as the cultural venues reopen on May 19, the Hatchikian gallery presents a sought-after collection of the artist's sculptures, at the Art Loft from May 14 to June 7, 2021.

A little history of the Balloon Dog.

”When I made Balloon Dog, I wanted to create a work that reflects the joy of celebrating a birthday or a party. The dog carved from a balloon is both materialism and monumentality. In many ways, it is comparable to the Trojan horse “. Jeff Koons.

balloon dog is one of the most famous sculptures of Jeff Koons which exists in 5 different colors (blue, magenta, yellow, orange and red), all made between 1994 and 2000. This chrome-plated stainless steel sculpture with transparent color coating "high chromium stainless steel with transparent color coating”Is a monumental copy of a dog made out of balloons made by street entertainers for children. This object, at first sight without quality and ephemeral, becomes a monumental sculptural work designed to stand the test of time. A solid and heavy sculpture imitating a light and fragile toy with the perfect reflective surface. A comic sculpture, in tribute to his son, whom he no longer saw after having divorced his wife (la Cicciolina) in 1994. Jeff Koons uses this funny and original tool to demonstrate both his fatherly and brotherly love.

After the separation with his wife, the artist embarked on the creation of a collection of works of art around the theme of feast days and birthdays: La series “Celebration". Gigantic stainless steel sculptures, Jeff Koons plays on the notions of ephemerality and indestructibility. It took six years for the artist to make this sculpture. An ordinary visual artist, Jeff Koons aims to transform into artwork everyday objects such as a rocking horse or any child's toy. He recovers an object, shapes it, enlarges it, molds it, refines it to perfection and then exhibits it.
