Zoom, an immersion into the world of the Zeer Module
The art of Medhi Cibille aka the Module of Zeer, like all artists from the graffiti movement, is visible in the city, especially in Paris. The Module, which duplicates itself and spreads over surfaces and supports, evokes a cellular replication, a neuronal proliferation, a movement that transcends us, an implacable mechanism that eludes us.
Who is Medhi Cibille?
Born in 1976 in the Paris suburbs, in Sartrouville, Mehdi Cibille has been exploring the visual and graphic elasticity of a form since the early 2000s: four spheres connected to one another by small pins. This reticulated object, drawn in black, with a thick line that delimits and contains, is Le Module De Zeer, for the experimental Zone of Expression Relative. By multiplying, stretching, isolating, condensing, and distorting this form at will, testing it in multiple spaces, supports, and scales, Mehdi Cibille questions both the plastic permanence and the perpetual evolution of a logo that has become a logo, at once a raison d’être and an element of a visual discourse. Here, a single letter serves as the alphabet. It allows Mehdi Cibille to create a plastic and metaphysical universe, to engage, as actor and spectator, in the empowerment of artistic form. In an exploration aimed at creating a homogeneous universe, based on formal allusions that feed on themselves until they become autonomous entities, Mehdi Cibille becomes the «craftsman» of Module De Zeer. He invades the street, the city, and its interstitial spaces. Walls, parks, abandoned buildings, and industrial ruins will be the first territory of his art, an urban art – graffiti, in fact – but above all a social and political act that he extends through a work in a gallery. Each intervention allows Module De Zeer to push beyond its own limits. The motif, because it is indeed a motif (a reason, a pretext as well as a theme and a drawing), transforms according to the transformations imposed by the artist. Regardless of the context and the medium, the artist always inserts his action where he detects a flaw, a paradox, or a contradiction in public space. In a word, it goes into contact, rubs against, confronts, and thereby calls into question and invites people to take a place in the collective, in what constitutes society. Art as the ultimate meta-image.
A selection of unpublished drawings
In Medhi Cibille’s artistic practice, the Module de Zeer extends exponentially across all types of media. The Zoom exhibition presents drawings and preparatory studies that offer close-up views of the Module as if it were seen through the lens of a microscope. These drawings thus refer to the notions of infinitely large and infinitely small, to cellular multiplication and, quite literally, to the birth of life…
