Momemtum or the artistic momentum!
Four contemporary artists carry the artistic momentum of the exhibition «Momemtum»; an impetus of modernity that highlights the exploration of techniques that are both millennia-old and contemporary. Thus, the work of Steph Cop, Niels Shoe Meulman, Emmanuelle Rybojad and Sacha Haillote was presented alongside a selection of unpublished works.
The Sculptural Work of Steph Cop
Steph Cop inscribes his artistic research in immersion in the Morvan ecosystem where he has installed his studio. The sculpture is part of a vital cycle in which the artist explores the extent of it. By carving the fallen trees bearing the stigmas of a memorable history, he prolongs their inscription in the narrative of Man. IX, a series ordered from 9 forms – figures ARO – constituted a major movement in Steph Cop’s work between 2008 and 2020. A movement that developed as an introspective exploration of the relationship between Man and the tree, a stylized and refined projection of the multiple possibilities of being-in-the-world. In addition to the artist’s preparatory drawings, which offer an immersion into his artistic practice and allow understanding the concept underpinning his work, the exhibition Momemtum presents several monumental sculptures including the majestic Ashraw, 2018. A work measuring more than two meters in size made of stained and burned oak from the Morvan region.
The paintings and drawings of Niels Shoe Meulman
Born and raised in Amsterdam, Niels Shoe Meulman joined the graffiti scene in the city, which was rooted in a strange mix of subcultures: punk bands, football hooligans and squatters. However, in the early 1990s, he was one of those children who made the transition from that scene when hip-hop came along and went to New York where he met some graffiti icons, including Rammellzee, Dondi White and Keith Haring. That’s where it all began for him. He never went to formal art school, but he was educated in graphic techniques like typography mainly as well as screen printing. The exhibition presents an unedited selection of drawings and paintings. It features the influence of calligraphy and Shoe’s talent for letter and gesture.
The lighting installations by Emmanuelle Rybojad
To be responsible, to meet the challenges of the catastrophe, but not to be docile in the process. The entire work of Emmanuelle Rybojad is an invitation to perceive differently, to explore all perspectives. Truth is not uniform. It is fleeting, multiple, like a flickering star or an unpredictable flash of light. Emmanuelle Rybojad’s luminous creations disorientate the eye, multiplying the field of vision. The work is multifaceted. The mirror games, like echoes of light in space, create a depth that opens up infinite possibilities. Art destabilizes monotony, offering a change of perspective and broadening the horizon. If it is not possible to change the world, each person has the life they give themselves; acting begins with oneself for the artist. Emmanuelle Rybojad’s Op Art is the resonance of her hyperactive visual activity. Inspiration is constant; the page is never blank. The artist “sees” his works. His eye is “absolute”; it perceives the finished work in advance. Then comes the demanding work of realization to achieve the perfection of the initial vision.
Sacha Haillote's daring creations
A prolific artist with diverse and colorful mediums, Sacha Haillote, trained at the Camondo school, is a young woman of her time, well rooted in reality, who gives us to see, with emotion, sometimes with a certain acidity, but never without humor, the woman of the 21st century. Sacha shows us her beauty, her aspirations, her madness and her torments. The woman has no secret for her; she is the Woman, the femininity in all that makes her up, from the «girly» flirtations to strong friendships; nothing is forgotten. Seductiveness is always present, Eros is never far away, Thanatos is not her subject…
The Momemtum exhibition introduces you to contemporary artists whose practices, both secular and modern, question humanity’s relationship with the world.
