Remed

(1978)

“Art is for me the sincere union of science and the soul. I live what I feel, I paint what I live. "

Remed was born in Paris on December 30, 1978.

Influenced as much by classical artists of the 20th century such as Modigliani or Léger, as by the Moroccan art of Zellige, Remed's work is unique and immediately recognizable.

Working in the conjunction of geometry and calligraphy, in the search for a mathematical perfection combined with the organic dimension of the gesture, cultivating the energy of the line, Remed seeks to find the truth through simplicity, to discover the universal language: the one of form and color.

Although residing in Madrid, Remed grew up in Lille. After completing a course in "communication space" at an applied arts school, Remed seemed destined for a career in graphic design, before a friend introduced him to graffiti.

After a year and a half experience in a communication agency, he left his job to devote himself to teaching graffiti in schools and social institutions (the intervention at the Children Art Museum in New York in 2011 being a culmination of this vocation).

A chance meeting with the artist Mahjoub Ben Bella was the first real turning point in his artistic career.

Realizing that an artist could work in a pure and sincere way, beyond commercial pressures, Remed finds the strength to embrace his own path - so he begins to focus more seriously on his work.

In 2006, he moved to Sao Paulo. His style is beginning to take shape to take a form today achieved and clearly recognizable. From then on, he developed his own language, centered on cosmology and spirituality, he simplified the form and densified the content.

The Moroccan influence materialized by the fusion of geometric and calligraphic elements leads his characters to disappear in solids and patterns of bright colors. Figuration tends towards abstraction. The complex stories he weaves into each of his images function almost like religious parables or popular legends, carrying a deep meaning often overlooked due to their “beauty”.

An obsession is born in him, the relationship between mathematics and aesthetics.

Questioning the harmony of "the whole", Remed's work can be seen as imbued with the balance and contrasts characteristic of Islamic art,

a visual code in which all parts of the image are involved in a search for synchrony, where nothing has been left to chance.

However, if his aesthetic experiments emerge from a very personal universe (he describes his painting as being a "private diary, a notebook of inventions or a philosophical essay"), they aim to transcend the "self" in the concern to reach each other.

Trying to create a universal dialect, a language capable of crossing social and cultural values through the creation of a primarily visual discourse, Remed attempts to communicate the classic themes and dualities of existence - life and death, illness and health, good and evil - his work borders on figuration and abstraction, in order to find common ground with the viewer.

Since his return to Madrid, where he is now based, Remed's work has continued to refine, developing what is now an inimitable style. While it produces more and more works in the studio, Remed has continued to cultivate a strong link with the street, through "the tag", albeit in a very experimental way, by inscribing today philosophical messages. calligraphed (often in chalk) on the walls of his city as well as by producing various more elaborate works ranging from the collage of posters to the most monumental muralism.

For Remed, all of its activities are equally important, on the one hand for the act of liberation that constitutes performance, on the other hand for the community and social value of the exchange. Each of these disciplines is an opportunity to rhyme with colors and shapes, an opportunity to communicate and experiment, the chance to vibrate, to live.

For him, art is simply a means of healing the soul, a remedy for the mind, as a form of therapy emerging from introspection, opening up to the other through expression.

For him Art is the marriage of science and the soul, a way of dealing with pain and happiness, love and hate, light and darkness, a remedy for life itself. . To find oneself in order to be able to give oneself.
