The original set design designed by Audrey Hatchikian and Julie Frydman, As artistic director of Quai 36, she composes the serial visual narrative of an aesthetic research towards abstraction, to explore the different chapters of a pictorial discourse inspired by formal typographic games or the observation of cosmic movements between the physical and metaphysical. A singular energy emanates from the works of Yann L’Outsider, unleashed by the brilliance of a creative gesture that, in the studio, has preserved the restless posture of graffiti practice. In Yann L’Outsider’s journey, this pioneering urban practice of artistic momentum continues to nourish, in front of the canvas, the plastic language of abstraction.
Black and white offered Yann L’Outsider a chromatic terrain for exploring contrasts, antinomies, and ambivalences that bring the formal elements of abstraction into tension, revealing a captivating kineticism and mysterious vibrations. For Yann L’Outsider, the choice of abstraction is a way to transcribe the questioning of existential paradoxes in a visual language that emphasizes their irreducible ineffability, inviting the viewer to experience the inscrutable in the purely aesthetic dimension, freed from meaning.
In his series of typographic games, as well as those that originate from contemplation of the infinitely vast and cosmic phenomena, the dynamic of movement gives an enigmatic relief to the work. The lines and the flashes of light in contrast to the dark and light invite us to accept the imbalance, the uncertainty and the unknowable: the fragility of the course of life.
The exhibition Variation(s) is on display From October 19, 2023 to March 9, 2024. She creates a path of iconic works These works mark ten years of research during which the artist confronted the specific temporality of the studio work with the instinctive drive of urban intervention to affirm the uniqueness of his artistic vocation. More recent explorations by Yann L’Outsider will also be revealed, notably those that open the monochrome black and white to a heightened effect through work on matter and volumes.
