After “Les Fleurs du Bien” in Paris, Angelina Guez is exhibiting a new collection of works in Bastia: “Les Fleurs du Soleil”. Audrey Hatchikian is presenting this new exhibition outside the gallery walls to give breathing space to the creations and allow them to inhabit a place where the artist’s message resonates. The island of beauty came as a natural choice in the scenography to bring the light that gives thanks to these “Les Fleurs du Soleil”.
Angelina Guez is a solar plastic artist who transforms matter into joy. Her art is also a way of life that celebrates life, love, and the rays of the sun. Following the tradition of the art brut movement, she creates to the rhythm of Jazz and Bossa Nova, welcoming the spontaneous outburst that comes from her soul as a child, delighted and carefree. Her characters are flowers that open their petals, unfold their colors, radiate their warmth, and dance to enchant the world.
A meeting with Matisse’s work at the age of five initiated her jubilant obsession with drawing. Supported by a loving and warm family, Angelina kept this instinctive disposition intact, free from the constraints of academicism, to create from a passion: that of wonder.
It was in Vallauris, in the heat of summer, that the enchantment that inspired the works created for this exhibition took place: Angelina Guez’s gaze shone brightly on the mural in the school, painted in the colors of the children’s round tables. Always in search of grace in her wanderings, the artist explores the eccentric manifestations of art, outside the footprint of tutelary figures, to fuel her creativity. The Fleurs du Soleil includes acrylics on canvas, ceramics, vases, drawings, and sculptures.
Angélina Guez works on multiple media that embrace the roundness of contours, with a predilection for paper craft that gives movement to her painting: the magic of absorption works and brings to life forms that recall the opening of flower petals. Ceramics allows the expression of the generosity of volumes. Angelina Guez’s radiant works draw, paint and sculpt a fairy-tale world that one wants to inhabit. Cocteau said of frivolity that it was the most beautiful response to anguish and that because joy is now in the sights of the weapons, this radiant energy of grace emanating from Angelina Guez’s flowers is a beautiful figure of resistance.
