Carte blanche to Yann L’Outsider Tempo 2: Typographic abstraction and its wanderings.
The Carte blanche to Yann L’Outsider exhibition presented by Hatchikian Gallery x Quai 36 runs its second sequence from March 10 to April 16. After a Tempo 1 dedicated to metaphorical abstraction, Tempo 2 highlights Yann L’Outsider’s work in typographic abstraction. The search for the aesthetics of the letter is part of the graffitist’s DNA, which unfolds the alphabet of a formal game with multiple possible interpretations, like the architectural construction or deconstruction of a plastic grammar.
The Tempo 2 by Yann L’Outsider from the Carte Blanche series will allow us to explore the evolution of this research towards abstraction. The formal compositions of black monochromes around the letter have been enriched with nuances of gray and ecru. In the most recent works of this movement, the artist incorporates a color syntax that opens up the horizons of this language to explore its aesthetic range, inviting us to a contemplation with dimensions multiplied. The introduction of color thus marks a new, unprecedented direction.
The artist invites us to discover his typographic abstractions without trying to decipher them; to accept them as such: to look at the work without interpreting it, detached from explanation, to let oneself be carried away by the plastic beauty; to accept and support the absence of meaning in order to better absorb the formal aesthetic.
Yann L’Outsider sees this research as an allegory of the artist with an incomprehensible language facing the viewer in search of meaning or the lawsuit of illegitimacy sparked by urban practice. The letter is a true creative obsession for Yann L’Outsider, whose gaze always seeks the typographic form during his wanderings: a topography of landscapes, an angle of buildings, a natural phenomenon, all places that are sometimes unconventional in which the artist’s eye can see a letter to explore. This search for typographic signs in the environment, Yann L’Outsider has traced in a alphabet made of Polaroid photos that will be presented at Tempo 2, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the sources of inspiration.
