The Pinault Collection at the Bourse de Commerce, Paris

After Venice, it is in Paris that the works of the Pinault collection can be discovered in an exceptional setting: La Bourse de Commerce. As was the case with Le Palazzo Grassi opened in 2006 and La Punta della Dogana opened in 2009, emblematic monuments of heritage are being renovated, combining historical splendor with the contemporary architectural purity of Tadao Ando to become the settings for a scenography that confronts cultural heritage and today’s avant-garde, for a contemplation of the works in an unprecedented setting.

Jeff Koons invests in the MuCEM in Marseille

Jeff Koons, the most controversial but also the most intriguing contemporary artist, has taken over the MUCEM in Marseille to create a dialogue between his emblematic works and the popular art collections preserved in the walls of fibreglass blocks designed by the architect Rudy Ricciotti. What a carte blanche for the artist, who looks a bit like the marriage of a dog and a lobster. What a conversation one could imagine between some twenty works that marked the artist’s flamboyant career, including 19 from the Pinault collection and loaned for the occasion, and everyday objects, witnesses of the history of popular lifestyles, belonging to the MUCEM’s ethnographic heritage inherited from the former Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions of Paris?

The artistic inspirations of Kornel Zezula

«I paint the light that comes from all bodies,» a statement by Egon Schiele that is among the artistic inspirations that Kornel Zezula nourishes in his work. The portraits of this talented young artist born in 1991 in Wroclaw and graduated in fine arts from the Sorbonne University in Paris indeed radiate a sensuality that uniquely and intimately illuminates the faces and bodies that open up to the mystery of the other. Insatiable for an artistic culture that leads him to literature, cinema, painting and sculpture, Kornel Zezula is imbued with the richness of the nuances of being. Although painting is his language, it is because words will always fail to approach the elusive singularity of the depth of being. The other who is irremediably beyond our grasp, the artist suggests, between veil and unveiling, through an aesthetics that gives a glimpse of a part of that unfathomable and fleeting interiority. A play of transparencies that reveals the full density of the emotions that emerge on the skin of a face and the contours of a silhouette.

Louise Bourgeois, François Morellet, Giuseppe Penone, a look at 3 contemporary works installed in the Tuileries Garden

Perhaps you have wandered through the Tuileries Gardens without ever noticing them… the place houses numerous contemporary works to discover, acquired by the State or installed by foundations. You need to step away from the main avenues and look for them among the trees and flowerbeds. Here are three of them to discover or rediscover during your next stroll.

A new edition of the exceptional furniture by Pierre Legrain at the Hatchikian gallery

An eclectic creator, brilliant and erudite, Pierre Legrain (1889–1929) first made his mark with his pen (sharpened at the Germain Pilon school from 1901 to 1907, where he met Robert Delaunay, among others), and with his sense of graphic design, talents that earned him the opportunity to work on drawings in collaboration with Paul Iribe, founder of the satirical newspaper Témoin. Pierre Legrain subsequently developed a skill that opened him up to binding or framing, and then to design, architecture, and decoration with the conception of objects and art furniture, during a period marked by the codes of Art Deco.

Steph Cop & Bálint Pörneczi, the sculpture ecosystem through the eyes of the photographer

Steph Cop inscribes his artistic research in immersion in the Morvan ecosystem where he has set up his studio. The sculpture is part of a vital cycle that the artist explores in its entirety.

By carving fallen trees bearing the stigmas of a memorable history, he prolongs their inscription in the narrative of Man. IX, a series ordered from 9 forms – figures ARO – constituted a major movement in Steph Cop’s work between 2008 and 2020. A movement that developed as an introspective exploration of the relationship between Man and the tree, a stylized and refined projection of the multiple possibilities of being-in-the-world. By chance, during artistic projects, Steph Cop met the photographer Bálint Pörneczi. He wondered with what eye the portraitist would approach his figures of ARO, personifications of the tree. Because, with the ARO cycle coming to an end, the time had undoubtedly come to open up the confrontation between the artist’s self and the figure sculpted in a third-person perspective; the moment to step out of the anthropomorphic mirror and finally be able to understand the tree as a distinct entity, to grasp the sublime in its singularity, to offer it a specific aesthetic, outside the projection of self. The photographer’s eye would thus have been that other presence that allows each person to find their own subjective place. Steph Cop therefore invited Bálint Pörneczi to follow him on his wanderings in the Morvan region, an inspiring source, encountering trees and sculptures, immersed in the artistic process.

Olivia Paroldi, an artistic project with a taste for childhood

Olivia Paroldi is about to depart for Cameroon, the first step in a series of visits to cocoa farms across different continents, for an artistic project she holds dear, combining, as always, the humanism of the cause of children’s rights and the poetry of the graphic language deployed in her prints.

«This project was born from a beautiful encounter,» enthuses the artist. The world of childhood is one of the driving forces behind my work, and it is a subject we share with my partner Julien Dechenaud, a chocolatier from Paris. In fact, chocolate conveys the taste of childhood; it is the emblem of an unrestrained indulgence.".

Andy Warhol and Pop Art

After an adolescence in Pittsburgh, a degree in pictorial design from the Carnegie Institute, Andy Warhol took off in New York where he began as an advertising illustrator. This journey may perhaps be seen as the etiology of the disassociated relationship to art of an artist who would live as a brand himself, constructing a public persona between narcissistic self-celebration and underground icon. Andy Warhol liked to define himself as a «commercial artist». Provocation?

Arty Tips: Amazon E-shop – A blank canvas for the artist Prune Nourry at Bon Marché Rive Gauche

The museums are closed, but the galleries remain open and Art has made its way to places where we can still admire the work of artists. The Bon Marché Rive Gauche has given Prune Nourry carte blanche for a monumental installation, Amazone Érogène.

Playing with the volumes of the atrium and the emblematic escalators under the glass roof of the Parisian department store, the artist presents a work composed of a breast, targeted by 888 arrows of wood and feathers on one side, and an arc on the other. An interrogation on femininity in its intimate flesh: the artist has sublimated her personal experience of illness as a means of artistic exploration, perhaps in an attempt to escape the objectification of the body and reintroduce a subjective narrative where protocols can seem to transform the patient into a secondary resident of their own illness?
