From Château La Coste to the island of Naoshima, the architectural purity of Tadao Ando for exceptional artistic domains.

For art lovers, destinations that offer both an exceptional environment and open-air museums are a true delight for aesthetes seeking escapades amidst spectacular works of art and architecture. From the nearby Provence to the distant Japanese islands, let’s visit two areas that have established themselves as indispensable artistic stops: Château La Coste, a wine estate on the foothills of the Luberon, and Naoshima, an island in the Seto Inland Sea in Japan. The link between the two? The architecture of Tadao Ando, winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize, whose austerity sets a unique way of inscribing the built into the landscapes and capturing the light to create the design of art spaces that offer unprecedented visual and sensory experiences.

Zabala, pictorial realism with a prism of a striking chromatic topology

Although Pablo Zabala began drawing and painting at a very young age before freely developing his visual language in public space through the creation of graffiti and murals that quickly gained recognition, his interest in the artistic practice led him to study Fine Arts in Bilbao. In his view, an accomplished artist must humbly confront the great masters who have marked history and learn to master the techniques of classical painting in order to better forge his own unique identity. It is about inscribing oneself in the artistic common world that precedes us, whether by accepting it as a reference or proposing a path of rupture. To distinguish oneself and build one’s artistic identity does not mean erasing the past or denigrating history: let the nihilists have their illusion of their Promethean egos.

Chazme, a chromatic of the urban artifact

If architecture is the first art, the major art of designing and constructing spaces, it forms the matrix of Chazme’s pictorial research, a formal abstraction inspired by urban geometries and nuanced by a singular chromaticity that opens up a metaphorical perspective. The formal universe unfolding as a web of buildings represents what man encounters in postmodern contemporary life? Are they the internal labyrinths into which our dreams lead us? Are these artifacts meant to connect us or separate us, isolating us in wall-based segregations? Chazme’s work opens up endless questions, both intimate and societal.

Projections, a set design by Audrey Hatchikian and Julie Frydman for a group show by Chazme, Nelio and Zabala

Hatchikian Gallery and Quai 36 renew their collaboration with an event that will open the year 2023: a Group Show, an exhibition of three internationally renowned artists whose universes will interact through an original set designed by curators Audrey Hatchikian and Julie Frydman. Chazme, Nelio and Zabala have transformed walls around the world with monumental and captivating works of art that evoke powerful associations, before exploring the canvas in the studio for a research that opens abstraction to new creative directions.

Art Habité, an exhibition by the artist Vincent Abadie Hafez aka Zepha, presented by Hatchikian Gallery and Quai 36

The 2022 Venice Biennale, a 59th edition full of enthusiasm and commitment

The 59th edition of the Venice Biennale is taking place from April 23 to November 29, celebrating 127 years of existence. After a one-year postponement due to the pandemic, we are delighted to be back in the artistic excitement of the largest and most prestigious global event around contemporary art. Cecilia Alemani is the curator, under the presidency of Roberto Cicutto. The first edition of the Venice Biennale was initiated by the city council in honor of the 25th wedding anniversary of King Humbert I and Marguerite of Savoy. It took place from April to October 1895, with awards already being given at the time to reward artists. For the occasion, the mayor commissioned a building in the Giardini, on which several architects worked, a building that was soon completed with the national pavilions established over time, creating a multi-faceted architecture. Since 1999, the former Arsenal slaughterhouse has become a new venue for exhibitions in addition to the Giardini.

Carte blanche to Yann L’Outsider, an exhibition in 3 Tempos presented by HatchikianGallery x Quai 36

Carte blanche to Yann L’Outsider is the inaugural exhibition of a long-term collaboration between Hatchikian Gallery and the Quai 36 Art Production House. Yann L’Outsider has been the link between these two partners, accompanying his artistic research: Hatchikian Gallery for the works in the studio and Quai 36 for the realization of monumental projects in public space. We had the opportunity to tell the beautiful story of these encounters in our previous Art Paper.

Remed, a graphic mythology

Remed employs a very unique visual language through a work that is resolutely sunny and warm: a way of celebrating life and love, and of transcribing into art what transcends us and connects us. A universal artistic language that brings together aesthetic emotion, the laws of science, mathematics, and the symbolic dimension, for a cosmogony in which forms, lines, and colors weave these myths and parables that are the founding myths of civilizations that narrate the specificities of the human condition.

Yves Klein, the painter of the intangible

The ineffable, the intangible, the inscrutable: during his dazzling life, Yves Klein sought to materialize them in the language of pigments.
Klein Blue or International Klein Blue, emblematic of the work
Blue, a revelation: this saturated blue overseas, IKB, combined with a fixing agent that allows it not to lose its intensity, constitutes the paradigm of a flamboyant work carried by the idea of universal permeation through color. A «blue beyond the pale»: it radiates vibrations of the mind. For Yves Klein, it is the most abstract color: «Blue has no dimension; it is beyond dimensions. All colors bring associations of concrete ideas, while blue evokes at most the sea and the sky, which is the most abstract thing in tangible and visible nature.» IKB blue was developed with a chemist from the pharmaceutical industry who helped the artist find an adjuvant, a synthetic resin called Rhodopas, whose property is to shrink when dried to reveal and reveal the pure pigment.
