What is the Zeer Module?
The Zeer Module, an expanded graphic design that is the material and matrix of the work of Medhi Cibille, a plastic artist from the urban art scene, carries a frenzy that takes on a particular dimension in this period when we are taking great strides to measure the uncontrollable forward momentum that was leading us.
The Module that duplicates itself and spreads over surfaces and supports evokes a cellular replication, neuronal proliferation, a movement that surpasses us, an inexorable mechanism that eludes us. Encountering Medhi Cibille’s work is to experience with extraordinary intensity this addictive mechanism that literally «occupies» us, devours us. This was the case with the agitation of the world until this spring of 2020 and the sudden halt of this frenzied march.
How is he developing?
As if he were grappling with the kinetics of his work, Medhi Cibille remained driven by his creative momentum before a slowdown began, with the delay of this period of inertia. The artist is overcome by a sense of bewilderment in the face of a real inertia; he becomes captive of the event that relegates him to a «here and now.» The immediate resonance between the rhythm of the Module and the viral dynamics that undermine our freedoms invites us to re-question our temporal inscription. This questioning has been imposed on the artist, but it concerns our individual existences more broadly.
For Medhi Cibille, it is not so much a desire for slowness as a way of embracing the energy of movement. Compose with frenzy, aware that it is neither necessary nor productive, and distinguish the sublime momentum from the fury, the effervescence of alienation.
Since his beginnings in urban art, Medhi Cibille’s work has been deployed across various materials. The peak of his work is undoubtedly to be found in the monumental fresco created in Marseille. The work in the studio, opening up to sculpture, marks a development that is affirmed through this unprecedented collective ordeal, an opportunity to think about repositioning towards purity, towards a more accomplished and meaningful work. Perhaps a modulation? From Module engrane, a return to the original sense of measure and melody. This spring 2020, we have gone from deafening noise to a strange silence. The time has come to add our own notes to the score.
